A Canadian company is developing a new drug that it says will boost its erectile dysfunction drug Viagra, and that's a new development in its form of the erectile dysfunction drug Cialis.
The company, which is based in Manitoba, said the drugmaker is planning a major trial to test the drug in men who had been taking it for at least six months.
It's the first time a Canadian company has taken a drug in its own country, said David J. Smith, who is also the head of its pharmaceutical division at Cialis.
"This is a significant step for Canada as a nation," Smith said. "The development of Viagra will make it easier to get erections."
Cialis is the brand name for the erectile dysfunction drug Viagra, which works by increasing blood flow to the penis, but has also been dubbed the "little blue pill" because it lasts for up to 36 hours.
A spokesman for Cialis declined to comment on the new study, saying the company is still working on the clinical trial.
